ousing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, announced on December 16, 2025, that the federal takeover came at the formal request of the Kano State Government. The state has already completed 850 meters of the work, with the federal allocation covering the remaining 6.7 kilometers. Compensation for affected property owners will be handled by the state.

Ata praised former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for originating the project back in 2013 and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the funds, describing it as a “major intervention” demonstrating federal commitment to Kano.
