The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially kicked off construction on the N47 billion Jakara–Wuju–Wuju road and sewage infrastructure project in Kano metropolis, marking a significant boost for urban development in the region.
Spanning across Gwale, Kano Municipal, Dala, and Fagge Local Government Areas, the initiative focuses on erosion control, improved sewage management, and enhanced economic activity through better connectivity.
ousing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, announced on December 16, 2025, that the federal takeover came at the formal request of the Kano State Government. The state has already completed 850 meters of the work, with the federal allocation covering the remaining 6.7 kilometers. Compensation for affected property owners will be handled by the state.
Ata praised former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for originating the project back in 2013 and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the funds, describing it as a “major intervention” demonstrating federal commitment to Kano.
for years, the project’s revival through federal-state partnership aims to address long-standing challenges like flooding and poor drainage in the ancient city districts.
