FG: Successful Rescue of Niger Students Reinforces Nigeria’s Duty to Citizens

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has confirmed the rescue of the remaining 130 children and staff from St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, describing it as a reaffirmation of the nation’s commitment to protecting its citizens.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Idris said, “The Federal Government can confirm that all 230 pupils abducted from the Catholic School, Papiri, have been freed. Not a single pupil remains in captivity. The just-released 130 pupils are being handed over to the Niger State Government and will soon be reunited with their families.”

The minister praised the efforts of security forces, noting that their courageous operation underscores Nigeria’s determination to safeguard its people.

He also expressed empathy for the parents and guardians affected by the abduction, wishing them a smooth reunion and recovery process. Idris extended festive greetings, saying, “We wish them a pleasant family reunion, a good healing process, and a Merry Christmas.”
