The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Edo State chapter, has called on stakeholders in this week’s governorship election in the state to work together for the success of the poll.

The body observed that ensuring free, fair and credible election is not something that should be left in the hand of women or men, but one that requires the collective efforts of all.

The Edo state Chairperson of FIDA, Mrs. Violet Olumese encouraged women and other citizens of the state not to be afraid for fear of violence, but to come out and vote for the candidate of their choice.

She also called on the electorate not to sell their votes or allow their votes to be bought.

Mrs. Olumese expressed the hope that when people come out to vote, rigging and other electoral malpractices become useless, as all accredited parties and their agents would be on ground at every polling units, to ensure accountability on the parts of INEC and overzealous politicians, who sole intent is to rig and cause fear in the electorate.

She appealed to the police, Civil Defiance, DSS and other security agencies to be apolitical and not partisan and ensure peace throughout the electioneering period for all parties involved.

The FIDA chairperson called on INEC to ensure timely arrival of its staff and election materials to polling units on the day of election, to ensure a smooth exercise.

She prayed that the best candidate would emerge winner of the election so that the state would continue to move forward.
