First Lady’s Office, MATAN Partner to Promote Good Governance, Economic Growth in Edo State

The Coordinator Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Anani, has called on the Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN), Edo State Chapter, to continue to be steadfast in their engagement with the government and the community. Mrs. Anani made this call during a courtesy visit by the Executives and members of MATAN to Government House.

 

During the visit, Mrs. Anani commended MATAN for its integrity and commitment to good governance, noting that the association’s efforts to check multiple taxation in markets and ensure a level playing field for all traders were commendable.

 

Mrs Anani reaffirmed Edo State Government commitment under the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo will ensure proper organization, compliance, and growth of the trading community in the state.

 

The Chairperson of MATAN, Edo State Chapter, Deaconess Marina Osaghae highlighted the association’s achievements, including its partnership with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Joint Tax Board (JTB) to enhance VAT compliance in the informal sector.

She also noted that MATAN had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Burke-Frazier on the VAT Direct Initiative (VDI), aimed at bringing informal sector traders into the VAT net through an organized system.

 

The Association decorated Mrs. Anani as the Grand Matron of MATAN, Edo State Chapter, citing her dedication to women , youth empowerment, and grassroots development.

 

The meeting underscored the commitment of the Office of the First Lady and MATAN to promoting good governance, economic growth, and development in Edo State.
