Governor Adeleke Quits PDP in Major Political Shake-Up

By Comfort Asemota

With less than 24 hours to the scheduled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election, Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned his membership from the party.

The Chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, announced on Monday that the primary election would no longer hold as planned due to ongoing factional crises within the party. He added that Governor Adeleke had withdrawn from the nomination process as a result of the internal conflict.

However, a separate letter from the PDP National Secretariat contradicted the state chapter, insisting that the primary election would proceed on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.

Adeleke’s Resignation Letter Surfaces

A letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, surfaced on Monday evening confirming Adeleke’s resignation.

In the letter titled “Resignation of My Membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”, the governor cited the ongoing crisis within the party’s national leadership as the reason for his exit.

The letter reads in part:

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.”

Adeleke’s departure adds further uncertainty to the PDP’s internal situation ahead of the contentious primary election.
