Governor Okpebholo Drives Urban Overhaul, Vows Ramat Park Flyover, City-Wide Projects Will Stay On Fast Track

In a bold demonstration of his administration’s accelerated urban renewal agenda, Governor Monday Okpebholo conducted a surprise inspection of flagship infrastructure projects in Benin City on Wednesday, vowing to maintain an unwavering “fast track” approach to development.

The Governor’s unscheduled visit, targeting the pivotal Ramat Park Flyover and a long-neglected erosion crisis in a nearby community, served as a powerful statement of his hands-on governance style and commitment to tangible results.

At the Ramat Park Flyover site, Governor Okpebholo hailed the project’s accelerated progress, which has already surpassed initial projections. He underscored that this pace is non-negotiable for his administration’s broader mission to deliver durable, people-centered infrastructure that unlocks economic potential and restores public trust.

“The pace and quality of work here are exactly what we demand,” Governor Okpebholo stated. “My administration is committed to infrastructure that directly improves the lives of our people. We will not settle for delays.”

Project Manager, Mr. Lee Jianshou, confirmed the project’s rapid advancement, revealing that 14 spans of beam-launching are complete. “With the Governor’s support, we are confident of delivering by April 2026, and no later than May 2026,” Jianshou affirmed.

This sentiment was echoed by the Commissioner for Works, Dr. Felix Akhabue, who commended the contractor for merging high standards with an expedited timeline. He assured that constant ministerial oversight is ensuring strict adherence to specifications, putting the project on course for an early completion.

The Governor then took his inspection to the adjoining community, where a decade-long erosion crisis has been met with a swift and decisive intervention. Elated residents gathered to welcome the Governor, celebrating the administration’s action on a problem that had rendered the area impassable and unsafe for years.

The solution involves constructing an extensive underground drainage system to channel stormwater from the Auchi-Benin Road corridor, followed by comprehensive road asphalting.

“This project is about restoring safety, accessibility, and dignity,” Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed on site. “We are putting a permanent end to the annual ordeal that has ravaged this axis. Our urban renewal is not just about flyovers; it is about holistic solutions that touch every community.”

The visit solidifies the Governor’s message: Edo State’s urban transformation is underway at an unprecedented speed, with the Ramat Park Flyover as a central symbol of a new, results-driven era for the state.
