A 26-year-old former NHS healthcare support worker, Ieuan Crump from Gilfach, Caerphilly, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of nine counts of sexual assault, including three by penetration, on two female patients at Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, Wales.
At Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on December 18, 2025, Judge Vanessa Francis described the offences as an “egregious, grotesque abuse of trust,” noting Crump deliberately targeted young women in severe pain and under strong medication during unnecessary intimate examinations in August 2021. He admitted wanting “skin-to-skin” contact and skipped gloves.
Victim Impact: Lasting Trauma and Distrust of NHS
One victim’s statement read in court:
“I tried to take my life on three occasions… I feel like I’m a shell of the person I used to be. I now trust no one in the medical profession.”
The second added:
“If a healthcare worker can do this, any man is a threat. I do not want to be treated by the NHS again.”
Prosecutor Matthew Roberts: “Calculated and deliberate” abuse of power for gratification.
Defence Marian Lewis highlighted Crump’s prior St John Ambulance volunteering, but the judge ruled the harm “devastating.”
