Hon. Bright Iyamu Pledges Scholarship to Top JAMB Student, Urges Stakeholders to Embrace Education-Driven Leadership

Edo State – 21 November 2025 — In a renewed push to strengthen educational development across his constituency, Hon. Bright Iyamu, Member representing Orhionmwon South in the Edo State House of Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment.

His office recently commenced the fencing of several public schools, a project that reinforces his belief that education is the bedrock of societal progress.

At the presentation ceremony held in his office at the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Iyamu announced a full four-years scholarship award to Mr. David Emmanuel, an indigene of Iguododo Community in Orhionmwon LGA.

Mr. Emmanuel emerged overall best among more than 300 participants in the third edition of the Free JAMB Registration Initiative organised by the Bright Aitengeba Iyamu Foundation.

According to the lawmaker, the initiative was established to eliminate financial barriers that prevent many students from enrolling for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). He expressed satisfaction that the programme continues to produce exceptional candidates year after year.

Mr. David scored an aggregate of 288 in the 2025 UTME and has secured admission to study Accounting at the University of Benin.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Iyamu said:“Education is the foundation of any society. As a representative of a rural constituency, my duty extends beyond lawmaking. It includes ensuring our people—especially our young ones—have access to the tools and opportunities needed to rise out of poverty.

When I interacted with David, I saw a young man who, despite his challenges, possessed remarkable determination. I remembered my promise: whoever tops the list will receive a scholarship. Today, I am proud to fulfil that promise.”

The scholarship package includes full tuition for four years, textbooks and learning materials, accommodation, and a modest living stipend—ensuring that nothing hinders the recipient’s academic journey.

Engineer David Salamin, a Lecturer in Applied Chemical Technology, praised the initiative, noting: “Meeting a young man who shares my name—a beneficiary of this scholarship—reminds us why we must continue to nurture talent. Hon. Iyamu’s investment is a beacon of hope for the student, his family, and the entire community.”

The Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Edo State Chapter, Adesuwa Ehimuan, applauded the Foundation’s sustained commitment. “For three consecutive years, the Bright Aitengeba Iyamu Foundation has opened doors for hundreds of young people across Edo State. This year’s programme again demonstrates the power of vision, consistency, and generosity.”

She further encouraged political office holders, philanthropists and community leaders to emulate this effort, stressing the centrality of education to societal advancement.

A constituent, Mr. Kingsley Ogbebor, commended the gesture, saying: “Every right-thinking public office holder should emulate this example. Education remains the bedrock of development and the greatest gift of hope to the younger generation.”

Addressing the awardee, Mr. Omorogbe Etinosa said: “We wish you every success in your journey at the University of Benin. May you excel, grow, and return to contribute to national development.”

In his response, David Emmanuel expressed profound gratitude to the lawmaker, describing the scholarship as a dream come true and a major boost to his academic ambitions.

The event ended with prayers for David Emmanuel’s success and divine guidance for Hon. Iyamu as he pursues more initiatives for the progress of Orhionmwon South, Edo State.
