Impeachment: Shaibu at large, notice to be published
2 min readEdo State deputy governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu seems adept at dodging being served the impeachment notice by the Edo State House of Assembly.
Recently, an overwhelming majority of the members of the state assembly recently moved to impeach Hon. Shaibu, but he has since gone underground to which makes it impossible to being served with the notice of impeachment
He was said to have allegedly adopted various methods to avoid being served in person including vacating himself incommunicado and unreachable to evade being served.
The cat-and-mouse game between him and the state assembly has become a sort of comic relief to political pundits who are amazed at the latest turn of events.
By law, he is expected to respond in written form within a specified period to the allegations raised against him by the House of Assembly.
Exasperated with the antics of the embattled deputy governor, the House at plenary on Monday decided to serve him by substituted means
The Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku disclosed that the House decided to publish the impeachment notice in selected national dailies, including the state-owned Observer newspaper.
According to him, the decision of the House was dictated by the non-availability of the embattled deputy governor to acknowledge the copy of the impeachment notice.
They point at the law which gives the respondent a seven-day window to respond to whatever allegations may be contained in the impeachment notice.
An earlier alleged attempt by the House to impeach Hon. Shaibu was truncated by the latter’s rush to obtain a restraining court order.
However, the last PDP Guber primary threw-up more troubles for the ruling party.
Frozen out of the mainstream activities of the party, especially the guber primary, along with his supporters, Hon. Shaibu declared himself as the party’s flag bearer in the September Edo guber election.
