Innovative Human Washing Machine Hits the Market in Japan

By Peter.

The futuristic pod that had millions lining up at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai is officially real: Japanese company Science Co. has begun selling the Usoyaro Human Washer — a full-body cleansing capsule where you lie down, close the lid, and get gently washed like laundry (minus the spin cycle), complete with mood music and vital-sign monitoring.

How It Works

  • You lie fully clothed (or unclothed) inside the sleek pod.
  • Warm water jets, air bubbles, and ultrasonic waves clean your body in ~15 minutes.
  • Built-in speakers play relaxing music while sensors track heart rate, stress levels, and even “wash your soul” (yes, that’s the official tagline).
  • No spinning — just a gentle, spa-like experience.

First unveiled as a prototype at the Expo (which drew 27+ million visitors), the machine is an updated version of a 1970 Osaka Expo concept that left a 10-year-old boy (now Science’s president) utterly obsessed.

Price & Availability

  • Retail price: ¥60 million (~$385,000 USD)
  • Only 50 units will be produced worldwide for exclusivity
  • First buyer: A luxury hotel in Osaka (service launching soon)
  • Second major customer: Electronics giant Yamada Denki, which will install units in flagship stores as a crowd-drawing attraction

A U.S. resort chain’s inquiry after the Expo convinced Science to turn the viral prototype into a limited-edition product.

From 1970 nostalgia to 2025 reality — Japan just made bathing weird again (in the best way).
