Kaduna Anglican Priest Abducted — Confirmed Dead in Captivity

By Peter.

The Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, has confirmed the death of Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, who was abducted alongside his wife Sarah Achi (a Customs officer) and daughter from their home in Nissi community, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State, on October 28, 2025.

In a sorrowful Facebook statement on November 26, 2025, the Diocese announced:

“With heavy hearts and deep sorrow… Ven. Edwin Achi… has been confirmed dead. His transition is a painful loss to the entire Diocese, the clergy, the Church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God.”

The Diocese canceled the Standup for Jesus 2025 event in his honor and continues praying for the safe release of Sarah and their daughter, still held captive.

Kidnapping Timeline

  • October 28, 2025: Bandits stormed the family’s residence in Nissi (near Kaduna Refinery), abducting the trio. Achi, from Umuaja, Ukwuani LGA, Delta State, was Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church.
  • Ransom Demands: Initial ₦600 million, later slashed to ₦200 million. Kidnappers used Achi’s phone to post captivity photos on his Facebook, with threats to kill if unpaid by weekend.
  • November 26: Confirmation of Achi’s death, hours after the latest photos surfaced.

Nephew Avril confirmed the murder: “These monsters killed him.” A relative lamented: “Nobody has that kind of ransom lying around… They threatened that if by this weekend the demand isn’t met, they will be unalived.”

Broader Crisis

Achi’s killing is the latest in Kaduna’s 2025 surge—over 200 abductions in weeks (Niger/Kebbi schools, Kwara church). The U.S. condemned it as “senseless,” urging protections for Christians. No arrests; family pleads for Sarah and the daughter’s release.

The Diocese ends: “The Lord be with you.” A faithful servant gone too soon—rest in peace, Ven. Achi.
