Kano Assembly Moves to Impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo

The Kano State House of Assembly has initiated the impeachment process against the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, following allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The move was triggered during plenary after the Majority Leader presented an impeachment notice backed by 38 lawmakers. The Speaker of the House, Jibrin Falgore, directed that the deputy governor be formally served with the notice of allegations.

According to lawmakers, the allegations against Gwarzo include abuse of office, breach of public trust, and financial impropriety reportedly linked to funds connected to local government administration during his previous role as commissioner.

Under the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the deputy governor will be given the opportunity to respond to the allegations before the Assembly proceeds with further steps in the impeachment process.

The development has sparked political reactions across the state, as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf currently leads the government in Kano State.

As of the time of filing this report, the impeachment process has only just begun, and the deputy governor has not been removed from office. The Assembly is expected to follow constitutional procedures before any final decision is reached.
