The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Samaila Bagudo, has been released after being abducted by suspected Lakurawa terrorists, bringing relief to his family and community.
Kebbi State Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, announced the positive update during a late-night phone interview on Saturday, confirming that the 60-year-old legislator is now safely back home and unharmed.
Bagudo was snatched from his hometown in Bagudo—the headquarters of Bagudo Local Government Area—on Thursday, October 31, 2025, around 8:20 p.m., just after evening Isha prayers. Heavily armed attackers burst into the town, overpowered the lawmaker, and whisked him away to an undisclosed spot, leaving locals on edge.
In response, the Kebbi State Police Command teamed up with the military and local vigilantes for an intense search operation, scouring bandit trails and forest dens. Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar had earlier verified the incident and vowed swift action. He relayed a message from Police Commissioner Bello M. Sani: “The Commissioner of Police reiterates the Command’s unwavering determination to ensure the safe rescue of the Honourable member and the arrest of the culprits.”
Communities around Bagudo stayed on high alert as the joint forces pressed on with their hunt. While specifics on how the release unfolded are limited, officials say Bagudo emerged from the ordeal without injuries, a testament to the security teams’ quick response.
This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, but the successful recovery offers hope amid the tension.
