The Obaro of Kabba and Chairman of the Kabba/Bunu Traditional Council, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Kogi State, has ordered the suspension of all church activities in the area until further notice.
The decision follows a series of security breaches, including attacks on churches and the recent recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition by security operatives in the state.
According to a notice issued by Rev. Kayode Osatuyi, Coordinator of CAN in Kabba/Bunu LGA, the directive was reached during a meeting at the monarch’s palace with traditional rulers and church leaders. The notice stated:
“Following the directive from the Obaro of Kabba, all church services are to be suspended until further notice due to credible security reports of attacks by bandits on our churches.”
Osatuyi noted that the suspension was issued after consultation with the state leadership of CAN, urging all churches in the area to comply in the interest of public safety. He also called for continuous prayers for peace in Kabba/Bunu and said churches would be informed when it is safe to resume activities.
The Kogi State Government recently confirmed the discovery of arms and ammunition from criminal hideouts during joint security operations across parts of the state. Authorities also warned worship centers, especially those on town outskirts, to reconsider holding services in crime-prone areas.
Recent attacks include last month’s assault on a Cherubim and Seraphim Church, and another attack at the Evangelical Church Winning All in Kiri, where two worshippers were reportedly killed. During the latest incident, bandits attacked a church during Sunday service, abducting about 20 worshippers.
