What Happened: Chaos in Broad Daylight
Around 4 p.m., the soldier—deployed for routine internal security—was trying to calm a rowdy scene when a mentally unstable man snuck up from behind and smashed his head with a heavy log, inflicting fatal injuries. Other troops on site quickly took control, neutralizing the attacker (dressed in rags) and securing the area. Onlookers fled in panic, but no further casualties were reported.
Viral footage showed the soldier’s bloodied body and the attacker’s corpse nearby, with voices claiming the rifle was used—debunked by the Army as misinformation. The video racked up shares, sparking outrage over security risks and mental health neglect.
Army’s Official Word
In a statement from Acting Deputy Director Lt. Col. Musa Yahaya, the Army emphasized: “Without prejudice to the ongoing investigation… the soldier was struck on the head with a heavy log, causing severe injury. The situation was brought under control by other soldiers, who neutralized the attacker and recovered the soldier’s rifle.”
They extended condolences to the family and pledged a full probe, while urging the public to ignore rumors and support troops.
