LASG Backs Youth Innovation to Boost Agriculture

By Peter.

The Lagos State Government has doubled down on empowering young innovators to lead the transformation of agriculture, declaring that food security and agribusiness in Lagos will be driven by youth, technology, and enterprise.

Speaking at the Lagos Agrinnovation Summit 2.0 held Thursday at Harbour Point, Deputy Chief of Staff Sam Egube, representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, hailed the Agri-Innovation Club as a flagship success under the state’s Agricultural and Food Systems Roadmap.

“This is not just a club — it’s a movement of young thinkers and doers reimagining agriculture through technology, creativity, and enterprise,” Egube said.

He praised Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, for successfully attracting youth into the sector — a major challenge when the administration began seven years ago.

“When we started, getting young people into agriculture was tough. Look at this hall today — she has succeeded,” he noted.

A Tech-Enabled, Youth-Powered Food Future

Commissioner Olusanya described the summit as the nurturing ground for scalable agribusiness ideas, built on:

  • Partnerships
  • Mentorship
  • Access to resources
  • Supportive policies

“We are building a resilient, efficient ecosystem where young agri-business owners redefine how Lagos grows, processes, distributes, and consumes food,” she said.

The initiative aligns with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, aiming to position Lagos as a 21st-century knowledge and digital economy.

Key Highlights from the Summit

  • Launch of new youth agri-startup cohorts
  • Showcase of AI, drone tech, and smart farming solutions
  • Pitch sessions for funding and incubation support
  • Networking with investors, mentors, and policymakers

The event drew hundreds of young farmers, tech developers, and entrepreneurs — proof of growing interest in modern agriculture.

Lagos is betting big on its youth to feed its future.
