Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has publicly acknowledged receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and pledged full cooperation.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday, November 28, 2025, Malami wrote:
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation. I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion.”
He added that he chose to announce it openly in line with his “long-standing advocacy for openness and responsible governance,” promising to keep Nigerians updated.
Malami served as Nigeria’s chief law officer from 2015 to 2023 under President Muhammadu Buhari, overseeing major anti-corruption drives, asset recovery efforts, international arbitration cases, and controversial legal opinions that often sparked debate.
In the final years of his tenure, he faced allegations around asset declaration compliance, contract approvals, and the handling of recovered funds — claims he repeatedly denied.
The EFCC has not disclosed the specific reasons or scope of the invitation as of Friday evening.
