Middle school educator faces allegations of sexual misconduct and stalking involving student

By Peter.

A Colorado middle school health teacher faces felony charges after allegedly carrying on a year-long sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student—and then stalking him after he ended it.

Teresa Whalin, 28, of suburban Denver, confessed to police that she had sex with the boy multiple times starting in April 2023, exchanged nude photos via Snapchat, and created fake phone numbers to contact him anonymously, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Denver Post.

The student, who was struggling with self-harm and mental health issues, initially described the relationship as “dating.” The pair met outside school for meals, spent time alone in her classroom at Ranch View Middle School in Highlands Ranch, and communicated heavily on social media.

When the teen cut off contact, Whalin began stalking him—driving past his home and appearing on his walking route to and from school. Frightened, the boy started taking alternate paths or getting rides with friends’ families.

He finally disclosed the abuse to a school counselor on Monday, November 10, 2025, prompting an immediate report to authorities. Whalin was arrested the same day.

During questioning, she admitted to the sexual relationship, the explicit photos, and using burner numbers—claiming she hoped the anonymous calls would push the boy to seek comfort from her.

Whalin is charged with:

  • Sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust
  • Internet sexual exploitation of a child
  • Stalking

She is being held at Douglas County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.

Employed by the Douglas County School District since July 2021, Whalin has been placed on administrative leave.

In a letter to parents, Ranch View Middle School principal Erin Kyllo wrote:

“We are working to secure a long-term substitute teacher for the affected students. In the meantime, the entire administrative team will support our students and ensure continuity of learning.”
