Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has described his time at Watford as a difficult period, both on and off the pitch. Speaking to Footy-Africa, Okoye reflected on the challenges he faced early in his career.
“My time at Watford was challenging, a lot was happening, not only on the pitch but also off it. I was younger and dealing with many things at the same time, including recovering from shoulder surgery. It was a tough period,” he said.
Okoye admitted that the experience taught him valuable lessons:
“Maybe I didn’t deal with some situations in the best way, but I learned from them and I’ve grown a lot.”
Despite not making a league appearance for Watford, Okoye was eventually sent on loan to Sparta Rotterdam, where he gained important playing experience.
The goalkeeper’s career took a significant turn after his move to Udinese in Italy.
“I got another chance at Udinese, and I took it. I’ve become a better player and a better man,” he stated.
Okoye’s consistent and highly praised performances have now made him Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper, highlighting his growth both on and off the field.
