The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has directed the recall of Indomie Noodles, Vegetable Flavour, following the discovery of undeclared allergens in the product.
In a statement issued on its social media platforms on Thursday, December 19, the agency explained that laboratory findings revealed the presence of milk and eggs, which were not declared on the product label. According to NAFDAC, this poses a potential health risk to individuals with food allergies or intolerances.
NAFDAC disclosed that the recall notice originated from Rappel Conso, the French food safety authority, which flagged the affected Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles. The agency noted that consumption of the product could be dangerous for people sensitive to milk and egg allergens.
While NAFDAC stated that the likelihood of the product entering Nigeria remains low due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle importation, it stressed the need for increased vigilance to prevent illegal importation or circulation.
The agency added that monitoring activities have already been intensified to guard against possible entry of the recalled product, noting that acquisition through online shopping platforms or international travel cannot be completely ruled out.
Distributors, retailers, and consumers were urged to exercise caution across the supply chain to prevent the sale, distribution, or consumption of the affected foreign Indomie noodle variant.
NAFDAC advised consumers who may come across the product to refrain from consuming it and dispose of it immediately. Members of the public were also encouraged to report any suspected sale of the recalled Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the agency’s toll-free line, 0800-162-3322.
