Naira Gains Ground, Hits N1,467/$ in Black Market Trading

By Peter.

On November 19, 2025, Nigeria’s naira showed divergent trends against the US dollar. In the parallel (black) market, it strengthened slightly to ₦1,467/$ from ₦1,470/$ on Monday, per trader reports. However, the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) rate weakened to ₦1,458/$ from ₦1,447/$, marking an ₦11 depreciation, according to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) data.

This shift shrank the premium between parallel and NFEM rates to just ₦9/$ (from ₦23/$ Monday), signaling convergence amid ongoing CBN interventions and FX reforms. Year-to-date, the naira has lost over 50% value, but recent stability hints at easing pressures from oil revenues and diaspora inflows.
