By Ireti Asemota.

The Nigerian Naira showed mixed movements on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with a slight appreciation in the parallel (black) market but a modest depreciation in the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM).

  • Parallel Market: The Naira strengthened to ₦1,470 per USD, up from ₦1,475 per USD on Wednesday—a gain of ₦5.
  • NFEM (Official): The Naira weakened to ₦1,459.95 per USD, down from ₦1,451 per USD on Wednesday, marking a loss of ₦8.95 according to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) data.

This shift narrowed the premium between the parallel and official rates to just ₦10.05 per USD (from ₦26 per USD the previous day), signaling improved convergence amid ongoing forex reforms.

The developments come as the CBN continues efforts to unify rates and stabilize the currency, though volatility persists due to dollar demand pressures.
