Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kebbi Area Command has strengthened ties with Benin Republic Customs at the Tsamiya/Sebgana border in a bid to boost security and cross-border trade.
On Wednesday, a Nigerian delegation led by Comptroller Mahmoud Ibrahim and Major Shola Moses of the 1 Battalion, Nigerian Army, visited their counterparts in Sebgana. They were received by Comptroller Arouna Dramane, Head of Wara Border Command, Benin Republic.
Speaking during the visit, Ibrahim stressed the need for joint efforts in tackling trans-border crime. “Security is a collective responsibility,” he said. “This visit aims to enhance intelligence sharing, operational synergy, and protect our officers, government assets, and border communities.”
He reaffirmed NCS’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and secure, legitimate trade between both nations.
Comptroller Dramane welcomed the initiative, calling it a vital step toward deeper collaboration. “We are committed to sustaining this partnership for stronger border security and economic cooperation,” he said.
The visit included a tour of Beninese customs facilities and ended with mutual pledges to maintain peace and coordination along the shared frontier.
This engagement builds on the March 2024 reopening of the Kamba border in Kebbi State, which resumed trade with Benin and Niger following a seven-month closure tied to ECOWAS sanctions on Niger.
