At the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco on Wednesday night, Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, lost 0-1 to France, their second straight loss.
Nigeria made four attempts at goal, more than the French squad, who missed three of their shots. Both teams defended well during the first forty-five minutes of the match.
Chisom Nwachukwu’s beautiful set piece gave Nigeria a golden opportunity, but Chevray Lauryne, the French goalkeeper, was there to tip it over the bar for a corner kick.
Queen Joseph’s delivery from a corner kick in the 50th minute of play gave the Flamingos their best opportunity when Nwachukwu’s close-range left-footed Goalie Lauryne blocked the shot once more.
After Elizabeth Boniface, Nigeria’s goalkeeper, failed to stop an attacker who was headed for the goal, substitute Laboucarie Luna came close to giving France the lead in the 62nd minute. However, Jumai Adebayo’s goal-line clearing kept Nigeria in the match.
The single goal of the game came via a low strike by Maissa Fathallah in the 81st minute, giving France the lead late in the game. Nigeria has zero points after two games as a result of the loss.
