The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) branch in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced the joyous safe release of Dr. Amaka Nwachukwu, a young physician whose abduction on October 20, 2025, had ignited a wave of anxiety among her peers, loved ones, and the wider healthcare network in Abuja.
In a heartfelt statement issued Monday in Abuja and signed by NMA-FCT Chairman Dr. Emeka Ayogu, the association confirmed that Nwachukwu—abducted while on duty at the National Hospital—regained her freedom late Sunday night after nearly three harrowing weeks in captivity.
“After almost three weeks in captivity, Nwachukwu has been freed by her abductors. She was rescued safely in Gwagwalada and is currently receiving adequate medical attention,” Ayogu revealed, underscoring her ongoing care and recovery.
The doctor is slated for an emotional reunion with her family in the coming hours, a moment the association described as a beacon of relief amid the ordeal.
Ayogu extended profound thanks to the outpouring of support—from fervent prayers and steadfast patience to unwavering solidarity—that bolstered the NMA-FCT through the agonizing uncertainty. He singled out security forces and all involved parties for their pivotal roles in the operation, hailing the outcome as a hard-won triumph not just for the chapter, but for Nigeria’s beleaguered medical fraternity.
In a poignant close, the chairman invoked divine safeguarding for all doctors, declaring: “Affliction shall not rise again the second time” for the NMA-FCT, its ranks, and their kin across the capital.
The news caps a tense saga that prompted the NMA-FCT’s urgent plea on November 7 for ramped-up security interventions, spotlighting the perilous climate facing frontline workers in the region.
