President Bola Tinubu administered oaths to the new National Population Commission (NPC) Chairman Dr. Aminu Yusuf (Niger State), alongside commissioners Joseph Haruna Kigbu (Nasarawa) and Dr. Tonga Betara Bularafa (Yobe), plus five federal permanent secretaries, right before chairing Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) session at the State House.
Tinubu arrived at 1:31 p.m. Citations followed, with the perm secs—Abdulkarim Ibrahim, Dr. John Ezeamama, Dr. Abdul-Sule Garba, Dr. Isiaku Mohammed, and Dr. Ukaire Chigbowu—sworn in at 1:42 p.m. and signing the register.
Yusuf (Senate-confirmed Oct. 22) and the commissioners took oaths at 1:47 p.m. The NPC drives censuses, vital stats, and demographic planning key to Nigeria’s development.
The FEC’s eighth 2025 meeting kicked off with a minute’s silence for ex-Foreign Affairs Minister Amb. Joy Ogwu, who died Oct. 13 at 79.
Tinubu urged diligence and innovation, aligning with his “Renewed Hope” agenda.
