Office of the First Lady Intervenes in Gender-Based Violence, Arson Incident

The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili  Anani, reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to eradicating gender based violence during an on-site visit to an arson incident at Ogueaka Community in Uhunmwode Local Government Area.

Mrs. Anani stated that the Government maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of gender-based violence and will take decisive action against perpetrators.

In this case, allegations indicate that the suspect purchased fuel with the intent of setting his wife on fire.

Representing the Coordinator, Mrs. Mabel Obeto, Protocol Officer to the Office of the First Lady, remarked, “Had it not been for the rapid response of the neighbors, the victim could have lost her life in the blaze.”

A local eyewitness recounted the events: “On Friday night, I heard the victim shouting for help. When I went outside, I saw the victim and her husband engaged in a struggle inside their apartment.

Moments later, the suspect set the apartment on fire.” we were able to rescue the three children, and the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

Relevant agencies have intervened and assured the public that justice will be served and that the perpetrator will be held fully accountable under the law.
