The Office the First Lady of Nigeria, under umbrella of the social investment programme of the federal government has given financial assistance to two hundred and fifty (250) elderly persons across Edo State.
The event, which is being replicated all the 36 states of Nigeria, including Abuja, was held at the new Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City on the 17th December, 2024.
Representative of the first lady and administrator of the Office of the First Lady of Edo State, Mrs Edesili Anani, in her address, said that the programme, which is an initiative of Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the President, was designed for the wellbeing of the elderly, aged 65 years and above.
Mrs Anani said that this event, which is the second edition, was expedient to making the Christmas celebration easy for a number of our elderly citizens.
Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, thanked the First Lady of Nigeria for remembering the elderly at Christmas. He said that it was very evident that the First Lady means well for the nation.
Gov. Monday Okpebholo also expressed his appreciation of President Bola Tinubu whom he said is the enabler of the First Lady.
The Edo State Governor assured Edo people that with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Monday Okpebholo administration’s commitment to the development of Edo, surely, a new Edo has risen.
Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Wife of the Deputy Governor, Amb. Casher Osaretin Idahosa, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Gani Audu, Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Pius Alile, Civil Commissioners, Party Leaders, among others.
