Striker Paul Onuachu remained positive about his performance after Nigeria’s 2–1 defeat to Egypt in a pre-AFCON 2025 friendly in Cairo on Tuesday.
Onuachu said he approached the match with confidence, recalling his past success against the Pharaohs and feeling satisfied with his overall display.
“I went into the game knowing I had scored against them in the past, and I felt good about it. I played my natural game and gave my best,” Onuachu said. “Unfortunately, we lost and the goal didn’t come for me, but I felt good on the pitch. I think the team and I performed well overall.”
Nigeria had briefly equalized through Chidozie Awaziem after Mahmoud Saber gave Egypt the lead in the first half. Mostafa Mohamed later restored the Pharaohs’ advantage shortly after the restart, sealing a 2–1 victory for the hosts.
The Super Eagles will now shift their focus to their AFCON 2025 campaign in Morocco, opening against Tanzania in Fez on December 23 following this final warm-up friendly.
