Oscar, Former Chelsea Player, Recovering in Hospital After Heart Scare

By Peter.

Oscar, the former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder, is in stable condition in hospital after experiencing a heart-related problem.

BBC Sport reported on Wednesday that the 34-year-old fell ill during routine pre-season fitness tests at São Paulo’s training ground on Tuesday. Club staff and on-site doctors provided immediate care.

He rejoined his boyhood club São Paulo in December 2024.

The club stated: “Oscar suffered a cardiac incident and was quickly attended to by our staff and the medical team from Hospital Israelita Einstein, who were present. He was then transferred to the hospital, where he remains stable and under observation for additional tests to determine the exact diagnosis.”

According to Brazilian outlet Globo, Oscar collapsed while on an exercise bike and was unconscious for two minutes. Reports suggest he is now contemplating retirement.

Oscar signed a three-year contract with São Paulo—now managed by former Chelsea and Argentina striker Hernán Crespo—extending until 2027, following an eight-year stint in China.
