Veteran actress Peju Ogunmola has announced her return to acting after a period of mourning the loss of her son, Ayomikun.
In a heartfelt Instagram video shared on Saturday, Ogunmola expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming love and support she received from fans, family, and colleagues in the Nollywood industry during the difficult months following her son’s passing. She thanked fellow actors like Funsho Adeolu and Foluke Daramola for their public tributes.
“The past months have been incredibly tough, but your prayers, love, and condolences have helped me through the storm,” she said. “Today, I rise stronger, more grateful, and ready to return to what I love. The screens have missed me… and now, I’m back to do what I’m passionate about.”
In the video, part of which was in Yoruba, Ogunmola opened up about her battle with depression following her son’s death, but she shared how the kindness shown by people worldwide gave her the strength to move forward. “Since losing my child two months ago, I have been overwhelmed with sadness. But despite the grief, I have felt the love and support from all corners,” she said, visibly emotional.
She quoted a Christian hymn, saying, “When it is convenient for us, you are the Most High. When it is not, you are still the Most High,” acknowledging her pain but embracing the need to move forward.
“I’m back, not because the pain has gone, but because I know Ayomikun would want me to continue,” she added. “My passion calls me back to the screen, and it’s time to return. To all filmmakers, directors, producers, and my colleagues in the industry, I’m back — stronger, wiser, and ready to create magic once again.”
Ogunmola, daughter of the late theatre icon Kola Ogunmola, has been a cornerstone of Yoruba Nollywood, with a career spanning stage and screen productions.
