Christophe Bourrie, Benjamin Comar, Jennifer Obayuwana, and John Obayuwana were all present at the warm welcoming ceremony held for Mr. Benjamin Comar, marking his first official visit to Nigeria at the Polo Luxury Head Office in Lagos.
In his remarks, Polo Luxury Founder and Managing Director, John Obayuwana, emphasized that Comar’s visit underscores Piaget’s strategic commitment to deepening its presence in Nigeria and engaging directly with the country’s affluent clientele.
“This visit allows us to strengthen our longstanding partnership with Piaget while enhancing the luxury experience for our customers,” Obayuwana said. “We’ve been discussing strategy, logistics, product delivery, brand experience, and the customer journey. Nigerian consumers will undoubtedly benefit from these collaborative efforts.”
Reflecting on the partnership, Comar described the alliance with Polo Luxury as a “natural and perfect match,” praising Obayuwana for his pioneering role in Nigeria’s luxury retail market and his understanding of the evolving consumer landscape.
“John established Polo very early on, understanding the clientele and the market,” Comar said. “It’s no surprise that our best-selling watch is named Polo—this collaboration was meant to be.”
Obayuwana also spoke about the shifting dynamics of Nigeria’s luxury market, noting that Polo Luxury is adapting to cater to a younger, self-made generation of affluent consumers, beyond the traditional “old money” clientele of ministers, governors, and established families.
“The new generation of luxury buyers is thriving in sectors like banking, IT, entertainment, and business,” he explained. “Their expectations differ from previous generations, and we must stay relevant. While honoring tradition and classic style, we also need to cater to this emerging audience.”
On the subject of authenticity and counterfeit products, Obayuwana highlighted the sophistication of today’s luxury shoppers. “Customers research extensively online, travel widely, and know what to look for. Polo has earned the trust of the brands we represent—and even brands we haven’t partnered with send us items for repair, confident in our after-sales service.”
For more than 30 years, Polo Luxury has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s high-end retail sector, representing elite global brands such as Rolex, Cartier, IWC, Montblanc, and Swarovski, alongside Piaget. The partnership continues to solidify Polo Luxury’s reputation as a premier destination for luxury shopping in Nigeria.
