British fashion designer Antony Price, renowned for his bold, sculptural silhouettes and theatrical glamour that defined rock stardom and high society, has died at the age of 80.
Price’s influential career spanned over five decades, dressing icons from David Bowie (including the dramatic jacket for the 1986 As the World Falls Down video), Roxy Music, Duran Duran (the iconic pastel suits in their 1982 Rio video), Sir Mick Jagger (body-hugging buttoned trousers for The Rolling Stones’ 1969 Gimme Shelter tour), and Queen Camilla (ensembles for her U.S. tours in the 1990s and beyond).
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price studied at the Royal College of Art before launching his menswear career at Stirling Cooper. He founded his eponymous label in 1979, blending menswear precision with womenswear allure—famously styling model Jerry Hall (including her wedding dress to Jagger) and creating timeless body-conscious designs.
Tragically, his death comes just weeks after his triumphant return to the runway—his first major London show in over 30 years, in collaboration with 16Arlington, where singer Lily Allen modeled a dress inspired by Princess Diana’s iconic “revenge dress.”
Duran Duran paid tribute on social media, calling him a “visionary” and “kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend.” The British Fashion Council hailed him as a “true original” for his technical mastery and genre-blending innovation.
Price’s legacy endures in the glamour he brought to both rock stages and royal wardrobes.
