A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos State, has ordered the remand of eight employees of Yakoyo Abula Joint, located on Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island, for allegedly attacking enforcement officers of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) during an official operation conducted alongside the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO).

The defendants were arraigned on charges of attempted murder. They pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them, after which the court ordered their remand at a correctional facility until January 28, 2026, pending the Director of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) advice.

The accused persons are:

  • Ibiwunmi Oladunjoye, 30 (F)

  • Sikiru Oyelami, 45

  • Aja Daniel, 29

  • Sanusi Abayomi, 31

  • Timothy Emmanuel, 22

  • Ajoke Adegoke, 24 (F)

  • Sulaimon Akinbola, 28

  • Ridwan Adeshina, 30

The incident occurred on December 10, when officials of LSWMO and KAI visited the restaurant to enforce environmental regulations following reports of indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater, fats, and oil into the surroundings. During the enforcement exercise, the restaurant’s staff allegedly attacked the officers, leaving four KAI personnel injured.

Commenting on the incident, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, condemned the assault, saying:

“The Yakoyo restaurant not only broke the government’s seal, they went further to unleash armed thugs on officials who were lawfully carrying out their duties. This crosses every line.”
