Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has described his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “one of the easiest things I have done in my life,” while expressing no regrets over leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he accused of imposing “90% of the suffering” during his political crisis.
Speaking to journalists after a familiarization visit to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday night, December 17, 2025, Fubara framed the move as gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and a commitment to national progress.
“My joining the All Progressives Congress is to say thank you to Mr. President and to join hands with other progressives to develop my state and Nigeria at large. It wasn’t a difficult decision; it was easy. If you know my story, you should understand.”
On regrets over dumping PDP:
“Was I really a member of the PDP? I wasn’t. Whatever I suffered… 90% was imposed on me by the party. I was just at the balcony—neither inside nor outside.”
Fubara assured APC leaders: “Your new home is Rivers State… We are already showing evidence of success through what we are delivering.”
APC Welcomes Fubara: “South-South Now Fully APC”
National Chairman Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda (represented by National Secretary Ajibola Basiru):
“We are very happy… You complete the circle for us in the South-South—the first geopolitical zone completely APC. With you joining, our party’s strength has gone from Power 15 to Power 100.”
The defection—announced December 9—solidifies APC dominance in the oil-rich region, with Fubara citing Tinubu’s support amid his protracted battle with predecessor Nyesom Wike (FCT Minister).
