The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, on Tuesday apologised for the rowdy session at the Monday plenary where three lawmakers were suspended over alleged plot for his removal.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have waded into the crisis that led to the suspension in a bid to recall the lawmakers.

The Speaker had on Monday suspended the lawmakers indefinitely for allegedly plotting to unseat him and other principal officers.

The suspended lawmakers are Okogbe Donald, PDP, Akoko-Edo II; Addeh Isibor, APC, Esan North-East I, and Iyamu Bright, PDP, Orhionnwon II.

The speaker said “I wish to apologise to the staff of this Assembly for what happened on Monday during plenary. It was not our intention to create tension in the House.

“I am sure that this is not the first time you are experiencing such. We promise that it will not happen again. This apology is because we hold you in high esteem”.

Meanwhile, other members of the house met with the three suspended members for several hours to try and find a solution to the crisis and to ensure that the suspended members rejoin the House.

One of the members who pleaded anonymity said that the idea behind the meeting was to find out ways to lift the suspension.

The member said, “We met today (Tuesday) to find a way of lifting the suspension on the three members. Hopefully, the suspension will be lifted on Monday at plenary.

“We all agreed that the suspension is not constitutional, and it has put the House in disrepute.”
