Senior Police Officer in Ebonyi Slumps at Meeting, Succumbs in Hospital

An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died in Ebonyi State.

According to a police source, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Tuesday while Popoola was attending a management meeting at the command headquarters in Abakaliki. Until his sudden death, he served as the officer in charge of the State Intelligence Department.

The source revealed that Popoola suddenly experienced breathing difficulties and began gasping for air during the meeting. He was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre at the Police Headquarters, where medical personnel attended to him.

Despite efforts to resuscitate him, doctors confirmed his death. Preliminary medical findings suggest that the cause was cardiac arrest related to hypertensive heart disease.

Popoola’s remains have been deposited at the morgue of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki.

The police spokesperson in Ebonyi State, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident, stating:
“Yes, one of our officers had a crisis during a meeting and was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive. He was not sick before the incident; if he were, he would not have attended the meeting.”

Ukandu described the late ACP as a dedicated officer who served the Force with commitment and professionalism.
