A small multi-engine aircraft crash caused chaos on Interstate 95 near Orlando, Florida, Monday night, officials confirmed. The Beechcraft 55 plane went down while attempting an emergency landing, colliding with a Toyota Camry and scattering debris across one of Central Florida’s busiest highways.
According to authorities, the plane crash on I-95 occurred after the pilot reported engine trouble. The impact left the sedan crushed against the median barrier, prompting the closure of multiple lanes as emergency responders arrived on the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the Camry was driven by a 57-year-old woman. She was transported to Viera Hospital with minor injuries, a fortunate outcome given the extensive wreckage. The plane’s 27-year-old pilot and a 27-year-old passenger were unharmed and declined medical transport.
Photos from the scene showed the aircraft wreckage spread across several lanes, with parts of the plane—including one wheel—scattered on the roadway. The crash caused major traffic delays on I-95, affecting both northbound and southbound lanes for several hours.
Officials said the pilot was attempting an emergency landing, but the cause of the plane crash on the highway has not yet been determined. “What caused the aircraft to crash land on the interstate remains under investigation,” authorities noted. The FAA is expected to conduct a full review of the incident.
Monday’s I-95 crash was the second aviation emergency in Central Florida that day. Earlier, a small plane made an unexpected landing on a roadway near DeLand High School, leaving two people injured.
