Steven Spielberg Unveils Mysterious Upcoming Sci-Fi Film

By Peter.

Steven Spielberg is returning to his iconic sci-fi roots with the highly anticipated UFO thriller Disclosure Day, marking his first major alien-themed film in two decades.

Universal Pictures unveiled the cryptic first teaser trailer on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, finally revealing the official title of the long-secretive project. The footage keeps details shrouded in mystery but teases a global revelation about extraterrestrial life.

The trailer poses the chilling question: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” It then cuts to Emily Blunt as a Kansas City TV meteorologist delivering a routine weather report—until she suddenly freezes, stammers, and emits eerie, inhuman clicking sounds, suggesting some form of alien influence or possession.

Additional glimpses include Josh O’Connor pushing for the truth to be shared with “seven billion people,” crop circles, unsettling animal behavior, government intrigue (with Colin Firth in a high-tech setup), and hints of a worldwide event unfolding.

Directed and produced by Spielberg from his original story, with a screenplay by frequent collaborator David Koepp (Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds), the ensemble cast also features Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, and more. Legendary composer John Williams provides the score.

This marks Spielberg’s first feature since 2022’s The Fabelmans and his return to exploring humanity’s encounter with the unknown, echoing classics like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and War of the Worlds.

Disclosure Day arrives in theaters June 12, 2026.
