Total Vehicular Movement Ban in Anambra as Police Tighten Security

By Peter.

The Anambra State Police Command has declared a complete restriction of vehicular movement across the state from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, during the governorship election.

The directive, issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, covers all roads, including interstate highways, and applies to every motorized vehicle — private cars, buses, trucks, tricycles, motorcycles, and shuttle services.

“The decision is aimed at preventing the movement of political thugs and other criminal elements who may attempt to disrupt the electoral process.”

The order was unanimously agreed upon by Security Service Commanders at a high-level meeting held on November 5, 2025, at the Police Headquarters in Awka.

Only essential duty personnel are allowed to move, provided they carry:

  • Valid identification
  • Official clearance tags
Exempted Persons
INEC officials
Accredited journalists & observers
Medical personnel
Fire service & emergency responders
Essential service providers (e.g., power, water)

Advice to Travelers & Residents

  • Interstate travelers: Plan alternate routes before 12:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m.
  • Residents: Stay calm, cooperate with security, and vote early
  • Security presence will be heavy at polling units, collation centers, and strategic locations

“This measure is to safeguard lives, ensure peace, and allow voters to exercise their franchise freely,” SP Ikenga stated.

The police aim to:

  • Block thugs and arms movement
  • Prevent vote-buying and intimidation
  • Guarantee a credible, violence-free election

With 16 candidates, 5,718 polling units, and over 2.8 million registered voters, security is paramount.

Final Call to Voters

Vote peacefully. Report threats. Trust the process.

Security agencies are on full alert. Any attempt to breach the restriction will be met with firm enforcement.
