Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her candid views on marriage, describing it as “overrated” while revealing she is open to remarriage but not actively seeking it.
The 42-year-old actress made the comments during a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos. “I am open to remarriage if it comes, but I am not looking for it. I have learnt not to say ‘never,’” she explained.
Jegede went on to discuss her perspective on long-term relationships and marriage, noting that many couples break up shortly after tying the knot. “A lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years, got married, and broke up within 2 to 3 years. Sometimes, you wonder why such couples didn’t just remain unmarried. Because when they add the marriage tag, a lot of intolerance gets in the way,” she said.
The actress suggested that cohabitation might be a better option for some couples. “I think it is better to find who you love and just cohabit with them,” Jegede added.
Yvonne Jegede’s previous marriage to fellow actor Olakunle Abounce Fawole ended in 2019 after less than a year. She attributed the separation to financial imbalance and her ex-husband’s inability to respect or handle her.
Her comments offer insight into her current approach to relationships, emphasizing personal growth, mutual respect, and realistic expectations over societal pressure to marry.
