Office of the FirstLady, Caring Heart Initiative Advocates For Out of School Children

The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani has advocated for the number of out of school children to be brought to the bearest minimum.

 

She noted with dismay that lot of children are out of school, adding that the children are used for slavery and other forms of abuse.

 

Mrs. Anani said the perpetrators come under the pretence, that they want to help the children and they end up enslaving them.

The Coordinator office of the first lady explained that Gender Base Violence is on the increase because there are more cases unattended to, due to the distance between the urban and the rural areas.

 

She revealed that the Edo State Government is really doing a lot, and very soon the government would open a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (GBV Vivian Center) in Edo Central and Edo North that will take care of gender base violence cases and it will be funded, equiped and have lot of counsellor to attend to victims and enhance juctice because justice delayed is justice denied.

 

The Executive Director, Caring Heart Initiative (CHIADE), Grace Ese Obakine said Caring heart initiative has captured the educational and health sector, partnership with other organisation and among the Organization that reviewed the VAPP laws.

She disclosed that they have done lot of awareness on cervical cancer, free screening for 120 women in conjunction with the Ministry of health and every report they gather, they share with them to capture in their database.

 

She also said that they have been able to give out intervention for sexual gender base violence, rape case and alternative dispute resolution and do referral with the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (GBV Vivian Center).  We also solicit support for out of school children because Education is key, she added.
