The First Lady Designate of Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has urged medical students of the University of Benin to pursue their profession with compassion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
The event was held at the University’s Main Auditorium, Ugbowo Campus, marked the students’ transition from pre-clinical to clinical training.
Mrs. Anani made this call through her representative, Pharmacist Kenny Okojie, during the maiden White Coat Ceremony for 400-level Medical and Dental students organized by the University of Benin Medical Students Association (UBEMSA) and the Benin University Dental Students Association (BUDSA).
In her goodwill message, the First Lady Designate congratulated UBEMSA and BUDSA for the landmark achievement, urging the students to remain focused and passionate in their academic journey. “Your pursuit of excellence will not only elevate the medical profession but also bring hope and healing to those in need,” she stated.
Mrs. Anani further emphasized the importance of cultivating compassion, contentment, and strong moral character as cornerstones of effective medical practice.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Cynthia Madubuko underscored the significance of empathy, honesty, and integrity in patient care, encouraging the students to shun malpractice and approach their studies with diligence and sincerity.
The Guest Speaker, Dr. Imafidon Endurance, highlighted the growing concern of medical brain drain, urging young professionals to stay committed to serving within the country. “If everyone leaves, who will remain to care for our people?” he questioned.
The White Coat Ceremony is a symbolic rite of passage for aspiring medical professionals, signifying their formal induction into clinical service and their commitment to the ethical practice of medicine.
