Bomb Blast Kills 2 in Abuja School

Two persons have were killed in a bomb blast that occurred on Monday, January 6, at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of Bwari Area Council of Abuja.
Several other persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the the tragic incident that reportedly occurred at approximately 11 am.
According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, following a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, the Command promptly deployed police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa.
The area of the bomb blast was thereafter cordoned off to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate investigations.
Adeh explained that the bomb blast reportedly occurred on the school veranda, killing two men who were allegedly tampering with an improvised explosive device (IED).
She said a third individual and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently hospitalised under police guard.
According to Adeh, preliminary investigations revealed that the three men, identified as visitors from Katsina, had come to meet the school owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, saying that the Police suspected they brought the explosive device with them.
She explained that the FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the incident as an IED explosion, with remnants of the device recovered from the scene, adding that Mallam Adamu Ashimu has been taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Olatunji Disu, has urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or items to the authorities using the following emergency numbers: 0806 158 1938, 0803 200 3913, 0802 894 0883, 0705 733 7653, CRU: 0810 731 4192 and PCB: 0902 222 2352.
He, however, assured the public of their commitment to unravelling the circumstances surrounding the explosion and maintaining peace in the area. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
