CLEEN Foundation, CSO Observatory Group Pay Advocacy Visit to Edo State Chief Judge

In a move to express gratitude for his invaluable contribution to the success of the Civil Society Observatory Group on the implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) in Edo State, CLEEN Foundation and the CSO Observatory Group paid an advocacy visit to Hon. Justice Daniel Iyoba Okungbowa, the Chief Judge of Edo State.
Led by Mrs. Eromon Blessing, Program Officer, CLEEN Foundation, Edo State Office, the visit aimed to appreciate Hon. Justice Daniel Iyoba Okungbowa’s support and leadership in driving the initiative forward. Mrs. Blessing highlighted their progress under the MacArthur Foundation-supported Project, ‘Enhancing the Accountability of Justice Sector in the Mitigation of Corruption in Nigeria’.
_Key Achievements:_
– Trained 270 representatives from relevant criminal justice actors and MDAs
– Conducted workshops on budgetary allocation, gender accountability, citizens’ engagement, and performance appraisal
– Developed a citizens’ charter of demand for key stakeholders in the criminal justice administration process
Dr. Bright Oniovokukor, Chairman of the CSO Observatory Group on ACJL Edo State, commended Hon. Justice Daniel Iyoba Okungbowa for keeping his promise of an open-door policy. Despite ongoing challenges, Dr. Oniovokukor noted a significant increase in awareness about the ACJL.
The Chief Judge expressed his appreciation for CLEEN Foundation’s efforts, stating his passion for fighting corruption and his openness to innovative ideas. He thanked CLEEN Foundation for their training programs, congratulated the beneficiaries, and promised to study the Citizens’ Charter of demands presented. The Chief Judge also pledged his continued support and appreciated the gift presented to him – a framed group photograph from their first visit in 2023.
CLEEN Foundation is a non-governmental organization promoting public safety, security, and accessible justice. The organization has established Civil Society Observatory Groups across various states, including Edo, to monitor the implementation of the ACJL.
