Saudi Arabia confirmed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon on Thursday, June 6, marking the beginning of the 12th month in the Islamic lunar calendar. As a result, the holy month of Dhul Hijjah starts today, Friday, June 14, 2024. This announcement followed the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia’s call for all Muslims in the Kingdom to participate in the moon sighting on Wednesday. The sighting is crucial for determining the start of Dhul Hijjah and the scheduling of significant religious observances.

Key dates have now been established for the Islamic community. The annual Hajj pilgrimage for the year 1445 AH will commence on Friday, June 14. The Day of Arafah, a pivotal day of prayer and reflection during Hajj, will be observed on Saturday, June 15. Following this, Eid Al-Adha, the largest Islamic festival, will be celebrated on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

Dhul Hijjah is a profoundly holy month in Islam, marked by a series of significant religious events, especially the first ten days, which hold great spiritual importance. These newly confirmed dates are vital for Muslims worldwide as they prepare for the spiritual journey of Hajj and the celebration of Eid Al-Adha. The confirmation of the Dhul Hijjah moon sighting thus sets the stage for these key events in the Islamic calendar.
