Coordinator Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Anani, and Hon. Dr. Richard Osaro Edosa, Member, Oredo West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, have officially commissioned a fully reconstructed and furnished block of six classrooms, two administrative offices, and a functional borehole at Oza Primary School in Ward 10, Oredo Local Government Area., Edo State.
The ceremony, held in the school premises, drew government officials, community leaders, educators, parents, and pupils to celebrate these new facilities.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Anani praised Hon. Edosa’s dedication to improving both educational infrastructure and access to clean water. She observed that “Oredo West is fortunate to have a young vibrant representative whose passion for his people is evident in his achievements, noting that water and education are the bedrock of any successful community.” Her comments underscored the lawmaker’s swift delivery of tangible improvements since taking office.
Mrs. Anani also highlighted how the project aligns with the developmental agenda of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa. She emphasized that the current administration is committed to enhancing the lives of all Edo residents—indigenes and non‑indigenes alike—by delivering the dividends of democracy through initiatives like this one.
Addressing the school’s head teacher and staff, Mrs. Anani acknowledged their selfless dedication in the face of inadequate facilities. She thanked them for “buying water for the children before now,” and reminded them that their efforts will be rewarded both here on earth and beyond.
Hon. Dr. Richard Edosa, in turn, expressed gratitude for the collaboration that made the project possible and thanked Mrs. Anani for her support. He explained that the new classrooms and borehole are part of his three‑pillar agenda—education, health, and security—and drew on his fifteen years as a University of Benin lecturer and over two decades as a medical doctor to underscore the critical link between a safe learning environment and student well‑being.
Reflecting on the school’s previous state, Hon. Edosa described how pupils had once sat on the floor or on broken blocks under leaking roofs, and how some rooms were even used as makeshift toilets. “No child can learn effectively under such circumstances,” he said. “Now, with six modern classrooms and a reliable water source, our pupils can thrive.”
Stakeholders responded warmly to the improvements. Mr. Osayande Omosigho, APC Chairman of Ward 10 and Oredo Woman Leader, Mrs Esther Kolade praised the lawmaker’s rapid progress, noting that “in less than two years, we have seen classroom rehabilitations, boreholes, and street lighting.” They prayed for God’s strength to sustain his momentum.
Mrs. Tom Edna, Headmistress of Oza Primary School, described the intervention as transformative. She explained that, prior to the upgrades, the school struggled even to provide basic water for pupils; today, the clean, safe classrooms and potable water supply have changed everything, and the entire school community is grateful.
The commissioning ceremony concluded with enthusiastic applause from pupils and community members, a fitting celebration of facilities that will support teaching and learning for years to come.
