Edo 2024: Accord Party Charged To Substitute its Candidate
2 min readA prominent member of Accord party, Sandra Ogbebor, has added her voice to the escalating demand for the substitution of Comrade Kennedy Iyere, who emerged victorious in the party’s primary for the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial election.
Ogbebor’s call comes amidst mounting dissatisfaction within the Accord’s ranks, as many of the party stakeholders raised questions about his character, and integrity.
Expressing her concerns, Ogbebor emphasized the importance of ensuring that the party fields the most qualified and capable candidate with the best character to represent its interests in the forthcoming election.
She added, “Information and complaints so far reaching us is that Comrade Iyere doesn’t have integrity and character. Therefore, he’s not worthy to be a Governor in Edo State. He is a total stranger to Edo State People, who has never voted in Edo State. Nobody knows him, his family background, his immediate family (wife and children) and other important personal issues,” she stated.
Explaining why Accord Party leadership should immediately substitute Iyere, Ogbebor recalled how the party flag bearer in Edo State’s forthcoming gubernatorial election borrowed money and refused to refund as promised.
“Iyere borrowed over N3 million naira from me, and he refused to pay back till date. This is not the only incident that questions his character. In 2018, he used an event center in Lagos, and deposited a dull cheque and ran to Abuja where he was later arrested and sent to Lagos Magistrate Court,” she stated.
Sandra, while addressing newsmen in Benin City, Edo State Capital, also revealed that during the recent Accord Party primaries, Comrade Iyere refused to pay all the workers that assisted him and his friends that loaned him the money he spent, three weeks after the event.
“How can a Governorship Aspirant borrow money from friends for his primary election and till now, he can not pay back?” She queried, adding that Comrade Iyere is not prepared for the election.
She also described Iyere’s claim of hosting Women to mark the recent International Women’s Day in Abuja as false, challenging him to produce video and pictorial evidence of the acclaimed event by him.
Ogbebor, therefore, called on the National and State Leadership of Accord Party to immediately substitute Comrade Iyere with Dr. Bright Enabulele, whom he picked as his deputy following his emergence.
Dr. Enabulele, according to Ogbebor, is more qualified, competent, and has a bankable character.
As at the time of filing this report all effort to reach Iyere provide abortive.
