A group under the aegis of Concerned Youths For Development And Equity Initiative, has called on Edo citizens to make decisions that will shape their future, influence communities development and define their collective progress, through ballot box voting ahead of the Edo Governorship Election slated for September 21, 2024.

The call was contained in a press statement signed by its president and secretary, Ambassador Humphrey Igbinigie and Comrade Raymond Omokaro, and made available to journalists in Benin City, Edo State.

The statement stressed that the pivotal moment of Edo State is essential to remember one guiding principle which is the power of non-violence.

It emphasized that by choosing peace, citizens uphold the democratic values that allow every voice to be heard and every vote to be counted.

The statement explained that Edo State is known for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant communities, pointing out that violence during elections threatens the unity, creating divisions and mistrust among neighbors.

The statement enjoined Edo citizens to embrace non-violence as it would help maintain the harmony and solidarity that are vital for their collective progress and wellbeing.

It noted that acts of violence would not only jeopardize individual safety but also have far-reaching effects on communities to damage property, disrupt local businesses, and create an atmosphere of fear and instability.

According to the statement, elections are governed by laws and regulations designed to ensure

fairness and justice, as resorting to violence disregards these legal frameworks and can lead to unnecessary legal consequences.

The statement added that by engaging peacefully, citizens respect the rule of law and ensure that disputes are resolved through proper channels.

He stressed that as Concerned Youths for development, they should remember that the true strength of democracy lies in their collective commitment to peace.
