Edo Governorship Election 2024 – Okpebholo Declared winner by INEC

1 min read

Senator Monday Okpebholo’s victory at the Edo State governorship election marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape. Representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okpebholo won a closely contested race against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata.

The electoral process, held across Edo State, was widely monitored by both local and international observers, who commended the relatively peaceful conduct of the polls. However, the election was not without its share of controversies, with reports of isolated cases of voter suppression and technical issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in some regions. Despite these challenges, the electoral commission declared the process free and fair.

The APC’s victory is seen by analysts as a major achievement for the party, especially in a state traditionally governed by the PDP.

As the newly elected governor, Okpebholo has pledged to unite Edo State and fulfill his campaign promises of boosting economic development, tackling insecurity, and enhancing public services.
